Maternity Nurses

Maternity Nurse positions are available to those with a professional qualification or considerable newborn experience. Maternity Nurses are all very experienced, know all there is to know about new babies and are a great help and support for a short period after you and your baby return home from hospital.  They can be booked for any length of time (we recommend 4-6 weeks) and will help feed and care for your baby, and, best of all, take over completely when you need a rest.

A Maternity Nurse is expected to undertake responsibility for the care of the baby and mother and their duties include:

  • Preparing all milk feeds and sterilising equipment
  • Feeding the baby day and night
  • Advising on breast feeding as necessary
  • Washing and ironing all of baby's clothes cot linen etc.
  • Bathing and changing the baby as required.
  • Daily tidying all nursery
  • Assisting you in establishing a routine that suits your family needs

Maternity nurses are on call for 24 hours a day either 5 or 6 days within any 7-day period, although positions can be for just days or just nights. She is entitled to at least 2-3 hours off during the day to rest or take a walk and her time off per week consists of one/two full day(s) and one/two full night(s).  As a general rule positions are booked approx. 4 -6 months in advance; however we are used to handling emergency bookings.

We place maternity nurses throughout the UK, Europe, USA, UAE and Hong Kong.

Salaries guidelines for maternity nurses

Maternity nurses are self-employed and work on a freelance basis. Salaries vary according to age, experience and qualifications and the number of babies she is responsible for, e.g. single baby, twins or triplets.

  • £125-160 gross per 24 hours for a single baby
  • £150-220 gross per 24 hours for multiple births
  • Daily/Nightly rate £12 - £16 gross per hour
